Timber Experts

Our sawn timber comes from the same growing regions as our veneers. This allows you to choose both to match perfectly.

The logs are processed into true quartersawn timber or dimension stock, depending on their future use. This sawn timber is particularly suitable for high-quality interior finishing, furniture construction, and yacht building.

We offer the timber in thicknesses of 22, 27, 30, 36, 40, 52, 60, 65, 70, and 80 mm, air-dried and kiln-dried in our own drying facility. You can find which wood types are available in which thicknesses in our product list.

At Schorn & Groh, we provide skilled, personal advice to carpenters and interior finishing companies. We are happy to support you directly on-site and work with you to plan your project implementation.

YOUR ADVANTAGES

Special features of
timber

The Schorn & Groh branch in southern German Ehrenkirchen near Freiburg specializes in high-quality sawn timber. Here, every piece of wood is produced and stored under ideal conditions.

Optimal Storage

Every batch of timber is stored under controlled conditions at Schorn & Groh. Temperature and humidity are continuously monitored to preserve the wood’s natural structure.

Careful Drying

Our sawn timber is dried slowly and gently – precisely matched to the wood species and its future use. This prevents warping and cracking.

Tailored Selection

Whether you need decking boards, mouldings or rift sawn timber: we offer timber cut to size – perfectly matched to your project.

Native deciduous and coniferous wood

DECIDUOUS WOODS

Whether maple, oak, walnut, or plum – at Schorn & Groh, you’ll find an impressive selection of hardwoods in various qualities. Our hardwoods primarily come from Central and Southern Europe and often display a more vibrant, distinctive grain structure compared to softwoods.

Many hardwood species have a denser composition, are heavier, and harder than softwoods. These characteristics make them especially suitable for interior finishing and furniture making.

CONIFEROUS WOOD

As specialists in softwoods, we are located directly at the source in southern Germany. Based on the edge of the Black Forest, we purchase our roundwood as locally as possible or source fresh sawn timber from Germany and neighboring countries.

Softwood is particularly suitable for structural purposes and, thanks to its generally uniform structure, for simple interior finishing projects.

MODIFIED WOODS

Even highly durable, untreated wood reaches its limits under extreme weather conditions. To increase durability and dimensional stability, various wood modification processes are available. We place the utmost importance on sustainable and environmentally friendly modification methods.

Our standard range includes smoked oak, reclaimed oak beams and sawn timber, as well as Accoya in various thicknesses and finishes—please contact us for more information.

EXOTIC WOODS

Sustainability is a top priority for us. More than 95% of our solid wood stock consists of native wood species, which we utilize to the fullest thanks to advanced cutting techniques. While we strive to avoid tropical woods whenever possible, they are still essential for certain applications.

Exotic woods are often used in outdoor applications due to their properties such as hardness and durability, and they are also relatively cost-effective. Depending on the species, they may feature a very simple, uniform structure or an extraordinary grain pattern—making them highly sought after for crafts, drums, front doors, and many unique, one-of-a-kind creations.
