Doussie grows in the rainforest from West Africa, Guinea to Angola and Uganda. The tree-trunk can reach up to 40m high, up to 15m knotless, with diameters up to 1.2m. The wood is moderately large-pored and hard, from light brown to reddish brown in colour.
