Meranti wood is native to Southeast Asia and can be found mainly in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia. The tree is cylindrical and has a diameter of up to 150cm. The sapwood is up to 8cm wide. Meranti is extremely popular as veneer, e.g. as sliced or peeled wood, face and backing veneer. But it is also used in furniture. The sapwood is usually dirty-yellow and slightly darker in the air. The colour of corewood varies from yellowish-red to light red, but can also be very dark red-brown.
