Wood species / trade name: Oak European smoked / Smoked European oak, Smoked Sessile oak
Botanical name: Quercus petraea
Oak European smoked
Character / Color
Smoked oak is modified oak in color. The appearance is therefore identical to the European oak. By the addition of ammonia, the wood becomes discolored and gets a dark brown or even black hue. The hue depends eventually on the amount of present tannic acid in the wood. The dark shade of smoked oak is more stable against UV light compared to natural wood or thermo wood.
