Wood species / trade name: Oak red smoked / Smoked Northern red oak, American red oak
Botanical name: Quercus rubra
Oak red smoked
Character / Color
The red oak has firm, straight grained and slightly porous wood in a soft, slightly reddish fiery tone. Due to the smoking process or the reaction of the tannic acid in the wood with ammonia, the colour darkens to a light to dark brown colour. On the longitudinal surfaces striking grain or stripes can be seen.
